This is a beautiful example of early Victorian Art Glass. It's a 11 3/4" diameter by 5 1/8" tall Fruit Bowl or Brides Bowl. The base diameter is 3 1/2. The maker is not known but most likely it is European and early c. It is Green glass lined with White Opal and Gold decorated with enamel Florals and beautifully decorated. These bowls were very popular in the mid to late 1800's till around 1910. Many companies made them so it's hard to say who the actual maker is.
The pontil on this piece is ground and finely polished indicating a better quality product. The pattern of the bowl is a Melon Optic. The bowl is in perfect condition with no chips or cracks or nicks. There are some sharp edges that are covered with gilding so is was manufactured this way.It would probably have to do with the way the flared points were twisted by hand. It is a very unusual shape for sure. No mineral deposits or stains of any kind The decoration is in excellent condition There is very minor gold loss.
Any unusual white or dark spots shown in the photos are from camera glare. This will make a great accessory to any Victorian home.
